Cancer Nutrition Assistance Collaboration Created Between the Christine B. Foundation and Downeast Community Partners

Nutritional Assistance Program To Expand Within Washington County

The Christine B. Foundation (CBF) is working with Downeast Community Partners (DCP) to address nutrition assistance among patients with cancer and their families. Currently, the Foundation’s nutrition assistance program offers no-cost medically tailored grocery packages to patients with cancer, recent survivors, and their families across Eastern Maine. With this collaboration and ‘hub and spoke model’, CBF's nutrition assistance program can reach greater communities in Washington County, with the home delivery network of DCP drivers.

“The Christine B. Foundation team is honored to launch this partnership with DCP. Simply put, access and equitable distribution of care are two pillars of each organization. For those affected by cancer in Washington and Hancock County, calling these rural Maine towns home, know that we are with you. I hope this relationship will deliver not only the nutrition to fight cancer but educational tools, a sense of community, and the hope we all need to work together against cancer.“ said CBF founder and executive director Matt Dexter.

Each CBF grocery package is designed around the household's preferences, which include the choice between a variety of produce, proteins, and grains. Nutrition is a significant tool in every patient's treatment plan and the ability to remove barriers while accessing proper nutrients offers patients and families more comfort and resources.

“DCP is thrilled to be part of this unique nutritional solution for those affected by cancer,” stated Cheryl Robbins DCP Director of Transportation.

Downeast Community Partner drivers will ensure that all those in Washington County affected by cancer can access grocery packages through home delivery. CBF hospital pick up sites remain available at Northern Light Cancer Care and Northern Light Mayo Hospital, with home delivery in Piscataquis, Penobscot, Hancock and Washington County.

The Christine B. Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that was founded by Matt Dexter, son of Christine B. who passed away from cancer in 2008. The organization began as Eastern Trek for Cancer, Inc. in 2014 as a solo fundraising event and not long after inception was renamed to Christine B. Foundation, Inc. to offer more comprehensive services.
